Hi all, here we are with Week 45! Karen shares on how the artistic process is a journey and how she sees that mirrored in her own journey with God.
Regular readers will recall that we also heard from an Artist last week: Micah. There have been a couple of times in sending these stories that patterns have emerged, for example, Weeks 28 and 29 were both about Gifts from God. I wonder if God is speaking through these patterns; perhaps we are being encouraging in our creativity and along all our journeys. Take from it what you think God is saying to you!
Enough from me but one last thing; please do check out Karen's amazing art on her website.
In Karen's words...
I sometimes say to myself, who am I? How did I arrive to be on this earth as I am, now at this present time, alive, getting up each morning, watching the day unfold, sometimes in unexpected way. Was this by accident/conception or is there a much deeper meaning to my life, possibly so deep, it might  be difficult to fathom it out in one life time?
I call myself an experimental artist which I have been working in many ways since retiring as a midwife. But how did I arrive at being a midwife you might ask? I studied first as a nurse, but before that as child I spent three months in a plastic surgery unit after a diagnosis of skin cancer (thankfully caught early) and I as I watched  the nurses working I knew I wanted to do the same thing, and nothing would stop me!
On my art website I have a statement which starts with -Â
“Art is a journey, not a destination"
This I believe and know to be true of my life. As I try to explain sometimes to fellow artists, we are all on the journey, but on different parts of the journey, and I believe that God has had a hand in each stage of it, truly amazing to think about.
I give myself time to read the Bible with a short time of prayer each morning, and this has been a habit I can’t be without. I know God has always been there for me, with all my doubts, fears, frustrations and anxieties.
I had an art teacher who once said to me - for every ten pieces of art you make , you might be lucky to have one successful one.Â
So I must have a lot of unsuccessful work hanging around in draws and cupboards. Yes, and my life also has taken on a similar pattern of events! I’m constantly learning from my mistakes. I’m just so grateful that I made this journey, and still am, and give thanks for my life and all that God has given me.
Now for my next step, my studio is calling.Â
