WEEK 39: CHERUBIMS AND ANGELS

Hi all, welcome to Week 39! This week, Louise has written a reflection for us about how reading the Bible has revealed more about God to her. I love how connecting with His word always helps us to go deeper, find more truth, and discover more about who he is. Louise shows just how God speaks to us through the Bible and helps us understand more of His ways.

You can watch the same Bible Project video on Angels and Cherubims that we did here.

Louise has been a great supporter of Hope Hour (and of me!) since the beginning, and I am very grateful for all of her input and support. Thank you, Louise!

St Mary’s and All Saints are currently running a Bible study group organised by Laura.  The study is looking at key themes from Genesis to Revelation. The purpose is to get us to look deeper into the messages of the Bible and how these connect across the Old and New Testament – I always come away inspired and understanding more – thank you Laura. This week we discussed cherubims and angels in the context of the ‘Tree of Life’ and the ‘Tree of Knowledge’.

Cherubims are difficult to comprehend and appear throughout the Bible but are guardians between Heaven and Earth. God uses cherubims - hybrid creatures that can look intimidating. In Genesis, you will find them, for example, outside of the Garden of Eden to protect the ‘Tree of Life’ which represents God’s everlasting promise of love, compassion, forgiveness, and eternal life for all humanity.

A bible with pages flicking over.

Cherubims also appear on the Ark of the Covenant and the Tabernacle – all representing a guardianship/protective role.

Angels are far easier, as God’s direct messengers, but I understand this better by thinking that cherubims are guardians and angels messengers – both come from God and are there to help us to understand the incredible complexity of God’s message and goodness and to reject all that brings sadness in our world, to do good and to trust in God.

Thank you all so much for reading this story about God connecting with his people. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
